Marlborough's only exclusively small animal vet - 7 days a week
I, Nigel and my wife Trish opened our first veterinary clinic in a rented farm cottage at “Caythorpe” on the Middle Renwick Road in 1988. Three years later we moved to our present site in Boyce Street and the rest, as they say, is history. I worked for the first 10 years as a solo practitioner doing both farm and companion animals.
As the clinic got busier it became increasingly difficult to combine farm work with running the clinic so in about the year 2000 it was decided that we would concentrate on pets. The world of veterinary practice is becoming increasingly specialised and technical and we believed we would provide a better service if we concentrated on just one aspect of veterinary practice. Indeed, we are the ONLY practice in Marlborough that specialises in purely one type of animal (pets) rather than try and be a 'Jack of all Trades'.
Since 2005 we have been a four vet practice. The weekend rota is evenly shared which allows time off during the week for vets and nurses. It is an important philosophy of ours that we will work better and look after your animals better if we are relaxed and happy in our work and life. While this means your favourite vet or nurse may not work on a particular day, we will do our utmost to accommodate your appointment requests.
It is also important to our clinic philosophy that we `give something back` to the community that supports us. To this day, we have been the vets for the SPCA almost for as long as I can remember and, while it can be a challenging enterprise, it has been a very rewarding relationship over the years.
