Lost and Found

We all know how stressful it can be when your pet goes missing or

you find yourself with another persons pet at your door step.

If you find yourself in this situation, here are some steps on what you can do.

If you have lost your pet

-Social media has become one of the quickest way to track down a lost pet. List your lost animal on the 'Pets Lost & Found in Marlborough' page on Facebook or by clicking on the following link:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/506259786119661/

- The next step would be to call the SPCA on 03 5729156, Springlands Vet Centre on 03 5780661 and all other local clinics to check if your pet has been brought in there. All clinics will keep a record of your missing pet so if your pet gets handed in on a later date, we can easily contact you. If you are missing your dog also call Maata Waaka (dog control) on 03 5209033

- It is a great idea to list your pet on www.petsonthenet.co.nz which is a great lost and found website within New Zealand

-Trade Me is another excellent website to list your lost animal.                                                                                 http://www.trademe.co.nz/pets-animals/lost-found?user_region=14

- You can also call More FM 5790393, and Classic Hits 5780129. They do 'Pet Patrols" twice a day and will broadcast the details of your pet

- Phone the Marlborough Express on 03 5208918 if you would like to advertise your lost pet (costs may apply)

If you have found someone else's pet

-Social media has become one of the quickest way to track down a lost pet's owners. List your found animal on the 'Pets Lost & Found in Marlborough' page on Facebook or by clicking on the following link:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/506259786119661/

- If you have found a cat, call Springlands Vet Centre on 03 5780661 and all other local clinics so they can record the cats details. If you have found a stray dog please also ring Maata Waaka (dog control) on 03 5209033 as they will pick the dog up and find the owner for you

- You can bring any animal in to check for microchips (increasing numbers of cats have them), and ear tattoos

- If you suspect you have found a stray cat please ask around your neighbours and only bring it to the clinic if it is sick or injured. Consider putting a paper collar on the cat with a message (only if healthy and friendly), click here for a template collar you can make at home. It is a temporary collar which should stay on long enough for an owner (if any) to contact you. Paper collars are good because the cat can tear them off if it gets stuck up a tree or if its paw gets caught in the collar

- It is a great idea to list the found pet on www.petsonthenet.co.nz which is a great lost and found website within New Zealand

- Phone the Marlborough Express on 03 5208918 and they will advertise found animals free of charge
